Duration: 24 Months (started in October 2011) 

The Neapolis University participates in the European program, Lifelong Learning Leonardo Da Vinci titled MYCOT.I.CO.N (MYCOTa Intereuropean COoperation Network)- the recognition and the sustainable exploitation of wild edible mushrooms in rural areas.

The purpose of the program MYCOT.I.CO.N is the training of mushroom gatherers and the development of skills which will allow you to identify wild edible, poisonous and medicinal mushrooms and cultivation techniques.

For the achievement of this objective, is being developed interactive educational materials which will be provided to the trainees with the use of e-Learning. There will also be developed an application for mobile phones, which will recognize automatically the type of mushrooms and can be used by amateur mushroom gatherers.

It is estimated that the project MYCOT.I.CO.N will contribute significantly to the development of alternative crops mainly in mountainous areas as well as to the development of agrotourism.

In the MYCOT.I.CO.N program are involved the following organizations:

  • Larissa T.E.I., Administration Department and Project Management,
  • Agricultural University of Athens,
  • University of Palermo,
  • Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem of Bulgaria
  • K. E. K. Aigeas

Funding:

The program is financed by the European Union with a total budget of €261,112. The participation of Neapolis University is €45,924  where €37,662 are provided from EU funding.
