Open Lecture “Cervical cancer and methods of prevention”

The Cervical cancer is not inherited, as the common believe. It derives from a common virus called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It is a virus that could be very dangerous so it’s prevent is very important. This was highlighted in a lecture held in Neapolis University in Cyprus on 20/11/2013 with main speakers Dr. Andri Euripides, Gynaecologist – Obstetrician, Head of Gynaecological Department of the General Hospital in Paphos and Dr. Iliada Euripides, Paediatricians, Head of the Department in the General Hospital in Paphos. It was also noted in the lecture that there are more than 100 types of HPV. Only, 30 types of HPV can infect the genital area – and some may be even more serious, up to endangering the life of the patent. It was noted that HPV can infect anyone – women and men, and if there are no signs or symptoms, many do not even know they are infected. The HPV virus can spread easily, so it is important to protect yourself. The speakers emphasized that vaccination may dramatically reduce the rates of cervical cancer, and the need for further treatment. Moderator of the event was Professor Constantinos GE Athanassopoulos, Head of Program “The Neapolis University in Cyprus converses with Society”.
