Dr. Julia Georgi, Assoc. Professor and Chair of the Department of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences attended the inauguration of the “LINEAR PARK ALONG THE GARYLLIS RIVER Garyllis” in Limassol accompanied by graduate students of the Master of Landscape Architecture. The project was inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Nikos Kougialis.
The constructed landscaping of the river site covers an area of 5 ½ kilometers starting from the old port to the northern border of the Municipality of Kato Polemidia, and from the south end of the Second Technical School down to Ayias Fylaxeos street located west of Laniteio athletic center. Dr. Georgi referred to this project as an important case study that could offer valuable educative lessons to students of the Master of Landscape Architecture of the Neapolis University in Cyprus.
The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund named “COMPETITIVE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT” aiming at the REGENERATION OF URBAN AND RURAL AREAS for the period 2007-2013. More specifically the funded project aims at URBAN REGENERATION AND PROMOTION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP and its total cost is approximately € 14 million.
