SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE LAND AND ENVIROMENTAL SCIENCES
WORKSHOP ON ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTION MAPPING
18 April 2016 – 20 April 2016
A three-day Workshop on Architectural Projection Mapping was held in the studio of the School of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences, of the University.
The workshop was designed to give students an introduction to projection mapping starting with principles of creative programming.
Projection mapping is a technique used to project an image, shape or animation on any surface of a building, object or even body. This can make the object or building come alive with animated forms, transforming it into a dynamic construction.
In the workshop students learned how to make simple animations using Processing and projected them onto different surfaces.
12 students were divided into two groups and designed and constructed two installations in the space of the studio.
Visiting tutors for the workshop were:
Petros Koutsolampros and Lida Theodorou
Lida studied applied mathematics at the University of Crete in Greece before completing a masters in Adaptive Architecture and Computation at The Bartlett, University College London. She is currently in the 2nd year of her PhD in Media and Arts Technology programme at Queen Mary University of London. Her research focuses on measuring audience physical responses (gestures, expressions and body movements) during contemporary dance performances using digital technologies and computer vision techniques.
