Neapolis University Pafos, as part of its commitment to academic excellence and the practical application of business knowledge, organized on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 a webinar titled “Embracing a New Ethos in Business – Management as a Calling: The Case of Macedonian Thrace Brewery S.A.” The event featured Mr. Nikolaos Bilios, Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Macedonian Thrace Brewery (MTB), as the keynote speaker, with Associate Professor Andreas Masouras as the moderator. The webinar highlighted the business model and growth strategy of Macedonia Thrace Brewery (MTB), the only large 100% Greek brewery, based in Komotini. Mr. Bilios presented MTB as a model of ethical management, focusing on the principles of transparency, trust and corporate responsibility. At the same time, he stressed that good governance is a cornerstone of sustainable development, strategic decision-making and employee empowerment.
Special mention was made of MTB’s contribution to the Greek economy, with more than 150 employees, partnerships with 500 farmers and the cultivation of 30,000 hectares of malting barley, strengthening contract farming, the use of Greek raw materials and self-sufficiency, while reducing dependence on imports. In addition, the operation of the first Greek malting plant was presented, making Thrace a centre for brewing and agri-food innovation.
The seminar also highlighted the international export potential of MTB, which is present in markets such as the US, Germany and the UK, promoting Greek malt, Vergina beer and the innovative TUVUNU tea. Through exports, the company is increasing the international visibility of Greek products, thus adding value to the Greek industry and economy.
Finally, Mr. Bilios highlighted MTB’s commitment to comply with European regulations and the need to strengthen small breweries in Greece and create new jobs. The seminar concluded with questions from the students, focusing on MTB’s export development and the prospects of the Cypriot market.
