Associate Professor of Geotechnics and Material Science
Dr. Joao Paulo Duarte Pereira da Conceicao Mendes is an Associate Professor of Material and Construction at School of Architecture, Engineering, Land and Environmental Sciences at Neapolis University Pafos (since 2025) and Coordinator of the International BSc Civil Engineering Programme at Baoding University of Technology, Hebei province, China (since 2025). Dr. Mendes has a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (2011) from the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, Durham University, UK, and a “licenciatura” in Engineering Geology from the Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia, Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal (2005). The main research fields are related to the physical study of the hydromechanical behaviour of porous materials at the macro and micro scales, with special focus towards soils, concrete and plants. Dr. Mendes has several publications in his field of research and has participated in several International Conferences over the years. Dr. Mendes has 20 years of experience in the development of state-of-the-art laboratory and field methodologies for the study of porous media in collaboration with various industry and academic partners, most notably in the development of sensors for the measurement of capillary pressure in concrete, geotechnical soils, and agricultural soils.
