Starting from this year, the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ) has established the “Engineering Days”, a series of events leading to the main event, the “Engineering Award ETEK 2015”. The “Engineering Award” is to be awarded to a real or legal person or a work or energy, which has excelled in Cyprus or internationally and concerns promotion of engineering science and technology and / or implementation of innovative ideas and practices in the areas of engineering that have contributed decisively to economic, social, cultural, environmental and sustainable development of the Republic and / or contributed to the maximum extent by offering outstanding or special services to the success of the ETEK aims towards the advancement of engineering science and practice.
On the 11th of May, the Award Ceremony was held at the Educational and Culture Centre of ETEK, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Marios Demetriades.
The work of the “Urban Design and Infrastructure” Lab conducted during the candidacy application of Pafos for the title of “European Capital of Culture 2017” received Honorable Mention. The decision was made based on the participatory procedures employed, the assessment of the multidisciplinary methods applied to the architectural synthesis and urban design, the quality and essence of ideas, as well as the success of sustainable approaches adopted during the overall design of urban spaces.
The School of Architecture, Engineering, Land and Environmental Sciences led to the effort of these fifty-three volunteering citizens of Pafos, with the contribution of students and members of the academic staff. More specifically, Mrs. Kleopatra Karaletsou, Angeliki Sivitanidou and Evanthia Dova, together with Gannis Koutsolambros coordinated the Lab (2011-2012), contributed with written texts and designs, as well as edited the overall work that constituted the “Bidbook” and the “Newspaper” of the 1st and 2nd phase of the candidacy application of Pafos for the title of “European Capital of Culture 2017”.
