The 5th Graduation Ceremony of Neapolis University in Cyprus was a huge success, honoured by the attendance of H.E President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades and the Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos ΙΙ , who handed awards to the students who graduated with ‘’Honours’’.
In his greeting, the President of the Republic praised the work of Neapolis University in Cyprus and stressed that the government’s aim is to make Cyprus a major international education center where research, excellence and innovation will be promoted.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University Mr Michael Leptos referred to the progress and success of the University, pointing out that it started in 2010 and in just 6 years, . now it’s students exceed 1500. Furthermore, cooperation agreements are in place with the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Peloponnese, the Russian State University of Humanities in Moscow, the Zhejiang University of Science and Technology (ZUST) of China , the University of Pittsburgh USA, and recently with the Athens School of Fine Arts..
Currently, there are 24 study programmes, (undergraduate, postgraduate and distance courses), as well as 12 Ph.D. dissertation subjects in co-supervision with the University of Peloponnese. In 2017 new programs have been added, such as the Undergraduate Programme in Civil Engineering, the Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Impact Assessment and Sustainability Management, and the Distance Learning Postgraduate Programme in Modern and Contemporary History, with a Postgraduate Programme in Digital Cinema Production expected to commence in spring 2018
He also stressed that the goal of Neapolis University is that in the coming years the number of students to surpass 3,000 students, not only from Cyprus and Greece, but also from Arab countries, China and Russia, from where it already had its first students. With the completion of Neapolis Smart Eco City’s pioneering project, which will be centered around the University , it is expected that the number of students will multiply. He also pointed out that Neapolis is a University with wider role and activities with a special contribution and presence in literature, art and culture. Neapolis University has organized, hosted and participated in more than 1,000 events, international conferences and exhibitions. With Pafos Metropolis and Pafos Municipality it founded the ‘’Pafos Study and Research Center’’, signed with the Petrideio Foundation an agreement for the implementation of a research programme for the Pafos Press, whilst a research programme about the History of Pafos which has been approved by the Pafos Municipal Council, is also set to be launched soon.
Within this context, the M. Leptos Academic Chair Kyrenia will conduct studies, research and provide specialized knowledge about Kyrenia, its history, culture, problems and aspirations of its people. .
This year 534 students (bachelor and master’s degrees), graduated having successfully completed their studies. Mr. Leptos wished them every success and progress.
The ceremony which was held in the Akamas conference hall of the Coral Beach Hotel &Resort was attended by more than 1000 people and was also honoured with the presence of the former President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou, former speaker of the House of Commonsof the United Kingdom, Baroness Betty Boothroyd, the Pafos MP’s K. Konstantinou, C. Pittokopitis, E. Myrianthous and A. Fakondis, the Mayor of Geroskipou, the Pafos District Officer and municipal councilors, other district and city officials and representatives.
