Neapolis University Pafos confirms its momentum on the international academic map by winning the bronze medal at the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Europe Championship 2025, held from 28 February to 2 March 2025 at the University of Porto, Portugal. With this important award, the team from Neapolis University Pafos has qualified for the ICPC World Finals, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 31 August to 5 September 2025.
The University’s Distinction and the Team
Neapolis University Pafos stands out as the only university from Cyprus and Greece to qualify for the ICPC World Finals, demonstrating the high level of its academic programmes and the preparation of its students.
The team consists of students from the Department of Computer Science under the guidance of coach Pavel Mavrin, former ICPC World Champion 2004. The team was actively supported by JetBrains, a major contributor to education and innovation in programming.
The High Level of the Competition and the Big Challenges
Delft University of Technology (ranked 56th in the world by THE) claimed first place, followed by Universiteit Utrecht (ranked 66th) and ETH Zürich (ranked 11th). Meanwhile, prestigious institutions such as the University of Oxford (ranked 1st), Technische Universität München (ranked 26th), RWTH Aachen University (ranked 92nd), and Tel Aviv University (ranked 201-250) failed to qualify for the World Finals, underlining the high level of competition and the prestige of this accomplishment. The achievement of the Neapolis University Pafos team is all the more significant given the level of competition at this year’s event.
