Presentation of the European Programme for Research and Innovation «Horizon 2014-2020»

The official presentation in Cyprus of the European Programme for Research and Innovation «Horizon 2014-2020» was held on January 16, 2014 in Nicosia, by the Directorate General of European Programmes, Coordination and Development and the Research Promotion Foundation. The Neapolis University in Cyprus was represented by Dr. Julia Georgi, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and Director of European and Research Programs of Neapolis University, and noted that universities can play a key role in the achievement of Horizon 2020.
European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, said that the “Horizon 2020” provides for Cyprus tremendous opportunities and that research and innovation can be a tool to stem the economic crisis through the development of innovative products and through service and job creation. The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Zeta Emilianidou welcoming Mrs. Quinn in Cyprus and noted that the “Horizon 2020” can contribute significantly to improving the competitiveness of the European economy. The Director General of European Programmes Coordination and Development (EPSA) and Chairman of the Board of the Research Promotion George Georgiou said that European programs are remarkable opportunities for absorption of funds for research.
