The Law School of the Neapolis University in Cyprus organized a lecture on “The Role of Parliament in the general operation of the Cyprus Republic” on 07 March 2014. The main speaker was the honourable President of the House of Representatives Mr. Yiannakis L.. Omirou. Mr. Omirou traced the outline of the multilevel work that has been done in our country from the representatives in the Parliament, in a relatively newly elected government. The work achived, as noted, is compare worthily in quality and quantity, always proportionally speaking, to the work of foreign parliaments operating in countries with a longer parliamentary history and not facing the really difficult conditions in a shared, semi-occupied country.
George M. Leptos, Vice-president of Council of the Neapolis University Pafos greeted the event.
Mr. Lepto said that the Parliament had to face serious political dilemmas under unprecedented conditions for our country in the last year. The legislative work produced under these conditions is certainly not ideal, but maybe it was obligatory through the circumstances.
Professor Konstantinos GIs. Athanasopoulos of the Law Department at Neapolis University moderated the discussion. Prof. Athanasopoulos said that today’s investments lay the right foundations for future growth. Investing in education and culture laid the foundations for long-term benefits.
