Neapolis University in Cyprus, participated in the Engine4F Final Conference-Enhancing Engineering Careers, that took place in Aveiro, Portugal within the context of the EU project ENGINE4F, Erasmus + KA2 Project nº 2015-1-PT01-KA201-013007, on June 7, 2018. Universities, Vocational Schools, the Chamber of Engineers of Portugal, EDEM-the organization of women engineers of Greece, as well as SMEs from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Estonia, Greece and Cyprus comprise the consortium. The project focused on concerted actions to introduce students, especially females to the new professions of Engineering and Science (STEM). NEAPOLIS collaborated with teachers of computer science of the Apostle Pavlos Gymnasium in Pafos and all actions on behalf of NUP were coordinated by Dr Natia Anastasi.
Amongst other actions, students were asked to compose an independent proposal for a technical solution to an everyday problem, as part of a competition with a trip to this conference as first prize. The winning team of Constantina Neophytou, Savvina Lemesianou, George Nicolaides and Giannis Nicolaou proposed the development of «Humidity sensors for automated watering of golf courses». Dr Klitos Christodoulou (Department of Informatics) Dr Nikos Bakas, (Civil Engineering) and Dr Luis Alcazar-Roman (Chemist collaborator) selected this proposal amongst a total of nine compositions.
