In the context of strengthening trade and economic relations between Cyprus and the United States, the Neapolis University Pafos welcomed the United States Ambassador to Cyprus, Ms. Julie S. Davis, on Thursday 6th March 2025 at the premises of the University for an event entitled “USA – Cyprus: strengthening trade and economic ties”.
The event commenced with introductory comments from the President of the University Council, Mr. George M. Leptos, the Rector of the University, Professor Pantelis Sklias, and Ms. Davis, who spoke favorably of the long and successful relationship between the business community of the Republic of Cyprus and major American companies. The Ambassador emphasized the crucial role of American investment in the economic development of Cyprus, highlighting opportunities in tourism, real estate, investment in higher education, sustainable energy and the attraction of international business centers.
The event’s panel, moderated by Professor Pantelis Sklias, Rector, included presentations from Ms. Davis, Mr. Marios Tannousis (CEO, Invest Cyprus), Mr. Yannis Georgoulas (Board Member, US Chamber of Commerce Cyprus and Chairman of the Economic Development & Fintech Committee) and Mr. Andreas Panayi (Co-Founder, Kinisis Ventures Ltd. & KV Fund Investment Advisory Committee). The speakers analyzed the prospects and challenges for start-ups, the need for institutional and financial support, and the role of research centers of excellence in Cyprus’ economic development and international outreach.
The event concluded with an open discussion and questions from the audience, demonstrating the strong interest in strengthening commercial and economic ties between Cyprus and the United States. Ambassador Davis welcomed the warm welcome she has always received in Paphos and the lively exchange of views, while the Rector of the Neapolis University Pafos, Mr. Sklias, thanked all participants and reiterated the University’s commitment to continuing to promote dialogue and cooperation on key economic development issues.
The event was held in a fully occupied amphitheater with 250 people in attendance, confirming the strong interest in the discussions and development perspectives presented. The event was honored with the presence of the Regional Governor, Mr. Charalambos Pittokopitis, the Mayor of Pafos, Mr. Phedon Phedonos, the President of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Georgios Mais and the Member of Parliament, Mr. Charalambos Pazaros, among others.
